Taylor Mill Fire & EMS Department

The Taylor Mill Fire/EMS Department protects the lives and property of citizens who live and work in the community.

We provide the following services:

  • Fire suppression
  • Rescue
  • EMS with Basic and Advanced Life Support
  • Mutual aid to neighboring fire departments
  • Response to spills/leaks of hazardous chemicals with assistance from Northern Kentucky HazMat 7 if needed
  • Roadway cleanups from spills and accidents
  • Enforcement of open burning regulations
  • Response to severe weather/natural disasters
  • Inspection of local businesses to ensure compliance with fire code
  • Fire hydrant maintenance
  • Public education to promote fire safety

We employ a mix full-time, parttime and volunteer firefighters, firefighter medics and firefighters EMTs and make an average of 1,000 to 1,200 runs each year. About 65% of our runs are Rescue or EMS related. Structural fires account for about 8% of our calls.

Our equipment includes:
  • Pumpers and rescue pumpers
  • Life squads (ambulances)
  • AB Foam tanks (for fire suppression)
  • Attack and supply fire hoses
  • Hydraulic rescue tools (e.g., jaws of life)
  • 6 x 6 Gator for brush fires
  • Thermo-imaging cameras
  • Self -Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
  • Air truck to fill up SCBA equipment

Fire Chief General Fernbach

General Fernbach was promoted to the City of Taylor Mill Fire Chief on December 1, 2023. Chief General Fernbach embarked on his journey in 2003 when he began his career with the Erlanger Fire Department. With a commitment to serving and protecting the community, he quickly established himself as a reliable and skilled firefighter while also showcasing leadership ability.

In 2008, Chief Fernbach went to the Newport Fire Department, where he continued to hone his expertise and contribute to the field of Fire/EMS.

In 2021, He came to the City of Taylor Mill in the capacity of the Assistant Fire Chief, looking to expand his leadership capabilities. During this time Chief Fernbach has worked towards obtaining multiple grants for the fire department as well as supervising the day-to-day operations of the fire department.

Education has been a cornerstone of his professional journey. Chief Fernbach achieved the milestone of becoming a Nationally Registered Paramedic, showcasing a deep understanding of pre-hospital emergency care. Chief Fernbach also holds numerous certifications in specialized fields of study.  Not content with stopping there, he pursued higher education at Northern Kentucky University (NKU), earning a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Currently, Chief Fernbach is working towards a Master's in Public Administration (MPA) at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) with an expected graduation date in 2024.

Outside of his professional life, Chief Fernbach finds joy and fulfillment in my personal life. He is happily married to Suzanne, and they are blessed with four wonderful children – Jacob, Olivia, Peyton, and Liam. As a family, they cherish moments together, whether it's traveling to new places or enjoying a round of golf. Chief Fernbach believes in maintaining a healthy work-life balance, allowing himself to recharge and bring renewed energy to my professional and personal endeavors.
