Adopt-A-Unit Information

Adopt-A-Unit is part of a nationwide program called Americans Supporting Americans (ASA).  It is the mission of ASA to develop close ties between civilian communities and military units to enhance the unit's morale so they can carry out their mission more effectively.

The Adopt-A-Troop Committee has also adopted the 18th Ordnance Company (EOD) Bomb Squad out of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.  This group of 44 soldiers will deploy to Iraq at the end of November.  The EOD Mission - Our teams are responsible for the identification, render safe, and disposal of hazardous unexploded conventional munitions, chemical munitions, and improvised explosive devices.  We also support the United States Secret Service and the State Department as part of protection details for the President of the United States, the Vice President, and dignitaries from foreign countries.  We provide EOD support to civil authorities for incidents involving military unexploded ordnance, improvised explosive devices, weapons of mass destruction, transportation accidents involving DOD owned or DOD contractor owned munitions, or hazardous explosive items beyond the capability of the requesting civil authorities.  Additionally, we present classes on ordnance recognition, bomb search, bomb threat and reporting procedures of military, civilian, and federal authorities.  Lastly, we are capable of rapidly deploying as part of a Weapon of Mass Destruction Task Force to defeat weapons of mass destruction directed against the United States and its interest.   These soldiers returned in February, 2008.
